Scrapfest Day 2 ------can you say 'make n take'??

first thing......my ... "proof" pic! haha

Tim Holtz and me!

Well I got up pretty early (ok it was 630CT - 830AT hehe) and went down for the free breakfast.  I have to tell ya - sitting down there with a room full of scrapbooking group 'friends' makes you miss your buddies for sure!! I can only imagine the fun we would all have - they were 'tee-heeing' and going on....giving little presents to each other (hand made things)  -OH made me miss ya's all!!

So throughout the weekend there are 'make and takes' - they tell me that each day could be different per vendor (lines are LONGGGG well not long but think 40 ppl in line - 15 minutes / 4 ppl for some....that's a LONG wait time).  Anyhow I had decided that today would be (and most of the weekend for that matter) would be just 'looking' around - seeing ideas - and trying to get in on some make n takes - People were really starting to scare me - when they talked about the lines.....But I dont thnk i did too badly.....Read on..................

The first make and take i did was from Creative Imaginations...(and I was first in line!).....

Their booth - at 845am - she's smiling (maybe not after 8 hours! haha)

This is the project - using their Shimmering Mists as well as Twinkling H2O's.....

Creative Imaginations using Shimmering Mists and Twinkling H2O's

Notes:  The Orange patterned paper was not orange to being with - it was an off white color.(CI Wicked paper)  They poured their shimmering mist in to a bowl and we painted the color on with a paint brush....cool!  The witch is those sticky-outline stickers...(proper name: Stampendous Witchy Shoes Class A Peels). We colored in with the Twinkling H2O's - i made a bit of a mess - the work area wasnt 'quite' set up - so i turned my item over and got paint on it....they also had no water available to clean the brushes so my colors are 'weird'.....  The flower is Petaloo Jeweled Candies Flowers (plastic and with wire - cool) !!  Tip: When using the H2O's spritz with water and leave them open all the time (it's ok for them to dry out-just spritz again) otherwise they will go moldy - yuck!

Make and Take #2 comes from Hampton Art.......

I'm going to be honest with you - when i saw the sample 'make n take' it was at the VERY bottom of my list of things to try to get to but when i was done with the above one....the line was short and by this point I couldnt remember what it was until i got up there.....

When I realized (IE "this is what we are doing today") - I know my face sort of dropped...BOY was I wrong....I mean yes the project was / is basic.....BUT they gave us techniques!!  The lady demo'ing was great too!

First we took two color Chalk ink pads (one lighter and one darker) and  pounced three lines down a piece of acetate - one light, one dark, one light line.  then we took a rubber brayer and 'blended' the colors in.  then used the brayer to put the color on the larger flower.

Next we stamped a flower on a scratch piece of paper - placed the acetate (cleaned off) over top of it and colored the areas of the flower with Smooch  on the acetate.  so basically you are covering up the flower beneath with Smooch on top.  Get it?  Then you take the flower stamp and use the Smooch on the Acetate as a sort of stamp pad - then stamp it on the petals of the flower - soo neat - sort of using the smooch as a stamp pad! I thought this was very neat!

Just remember --you shouldnt judge a book by it's cover :)

At this point i needed to go and get Mel/Cindy's paper (ok mine too) and i go to the Archivers Store.....

Meet Madison - owner of Echo Park - this guy is going to do well - he's really enthusiastic - and really good with people - there were others in the store (product owners) who were too busy texting than helping....

Owner of Echo Park Paper
Got a pic - and got the paper - He signed the paper packs for ya ladies!

Walked around a bit more observing .....Here is a shot of one of teh classrooms....Guess who is teaching??

Tim Holtz in the MOA Rotunda

Anyone like Copics??  Well these three fine ladies from Our Craft Lounge were doing a demonstration of Copic Markers and 'Sparkly Fluff'.  I got to 'color' the scarf and holly and put the sparkle and fluff on! The rest was done up ahead.  Look at that hat - and the snow-body shading!

Our Craft Lounge - Copics
Also demo-ing product was Stampendous - they were showing a "Paint with Powder' technique - this uses opaque embossing powder and basically stamping with something like 'versa mark' and 'layering' the powder on..(using a spoon to sprinkle it on)...heat embossing it - then stamping an image and embossing it - coloring using versa - again and embossing - etc etc.  it was sort of cool.....

Next up is from Unity Stamp Company - I have to tell ya - these folks were 'real nice'...  The owner and her husband were there and we chatted a bit - they were really awesome ppl.  She is drop dead gorgeous!  She looks likes she's 20 but found out they have a 16 yo......OMG!  A bit of a 'funny' - her husbands 'badge' said 'Christina' instead of 'Christian'....so we were laughing and teasing him about it and he pipes up ... "it's sort of like - A boy named Sue!!'  So first we 'aged the tag using good ole ink pad and a Tim holtz handle thing-a-ma-jig with a 'sponge' type thing on the end (instead of the felt) ...not quite sold i dont think....stamped images, put dash thing-ys on (stitches oh yeah).....paper glued, yarn knotted - ribbon put on - and done!

Make n Take #4 -  this comes from We Are Memory Keepers - they were demo-ing their 'binding product' - maybe the 'Cinch?' as well as the Brad 'setter' tool...
Sorry the pic is sideways- We scrunched up some circles/flowers - using the 'new' took we positioned the flowers on the paper, poked a hole in the flower through the patterned paper - put our brad in and turned it over and 'opened' and 'flattened' the prongs with this 'new' tool - its sort of a neat thing - undecided if I want it right now - but we will see.  Added a sticker....then we glued the patterened paper to chipboard of same size and punched the holes using the binding system.  We also punched holes in about 3 or 4 additional pieces of patterned paper and an additional piece of chipboard for the back.  We threaded the wire 'coil' through the holes and ta-da - we have a mini book.

We are Memory Keepers

Hey all - at this point my feet are killing me!!! it's around 4pm and I'm tired!!

So the last make n take of the day.....Doodle bug designs - we got to spin a wheel to win a prize....and I won....braddies...arent' they cute...

..Meet Doodlebug Dan!  Our instructor....

Doodle Bug Dan (self proclaimed btw)

And the cute card we made:
Doodle bug designs

This demo was obviously showcasing their paper, pp was layered on - there was some 'bling' appeal here - we put glue from a glue pen on the pumpkin stem and then put sparkles on it (big glitter?) - cut strip of sentiment and 'brad-ed' it down - put all on black cardstock - Done!

At this point - my feet are KILLIN me! I go by Cinnabon (never had one before - YUM!) get a little treat - and walk back to the hotel.....

Put my bathing suit on and got in the hot tub---ahhhhh! Then to the pool and back up here to change!

That's when I sat down to blog  to my dear friends!

It's been a long - fun day!  Only complaint is that there is one thing missing............my friends :)

 Talk to you tomorrow!! Woot!
