Corregidor Island

As quoted on www.corregidorisland.com :

"Corregidor is a small rocky island in the Philippines about 48 kilometers west
of Manila which is stragetically located at the entrance of Manila Bay. This
island fortress stands as a memorial for the courage, valor, and heroism of its
Filipino and American defenders who bravely held their ground against the
overwhelming number of invading Japanese forces during World War II. "

This tour was (as I expected) very pro-american military similar to the city tour that we took a few weeks ago. We made an observation that it would be really uncomfortable to be a Japanese tourist on our tour----remember Pearl Harbour Wes??? Same thing.

Speaking of Pearl Harbour - Corregidor is the home of one of the two monuments that the US built to honor service men on the Pacific Ocean - the other being at Pearl Harbour - so I've actually seen both....that is cool.....

I like this pic - mainly because it has the crum
bling barracks, the Pacific memorial and the statues...

Here are the statues up close!

And a pic of a sculture symbolizing the eternal flame.

I think the Philipinos are the "king" of recycling - -this garbage can is made from an old tire!

A view from the restaurant.......

What fantastic pics. The place seems so very rich in history and culture.

Wes, hope you are bringing her a big warm coat, hat and mitties to the airport she isn't going to know what hit her :)

The history aspect would be very interesting. The propaganda, not so much.

Warm clothes for Sue for sure, Wes! It's supposed to warm up though on Friday ... a balmy high of -7 degrees! Woohoo!
